Mary Allene Wachtel, 82, of Bean Station died Monday, March 8, at her home.

Born in Staunton, Va., she became president of Kingswood School in Bean Station after the death of her husband, John P. Wachtel.

'Miss Mary' and 'Mr. John' worked for over 60 years with Kingswood, a Christian children's home and school, including a number of years' association with the institute's founder, Dr. A.E. Wachtel.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Myrtle Pelt; sons, John E. and Philip Wachtel; brother, T.W. Pelt; son-in-law, John R. Ray; a grandson, and a great-granddaughter.

Surviving are her daughters and son-in-law, Villa M. Ray of Florida and Joan A. and J.P. Denton of Morristown; sister, Dorothy M. Pelt of Heritage Center of Morristown; 11 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were set for Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Kingswood Memorial Chapel with Rev. Steve Walker, pastor of Kingswood Chapel, and Rev. Thomas James, pastor of Alpha Baptist Church, officiating.

Burial in Jarnagin Cemetery in Morristown.

Serving as pallbearers were grandsons, Ron Ray, Allen Wachtel, Bruce Plum, John Copeland and Dale Singley, and son-in-law, J.P. Denton.

Memorial donations may be made to Kingswood School, P.O. Box 5000, Bean Station, TN 37708.
