John Sidney McInnes, "Pa", was born in 1927 in Sewell Chile, which is a mining town high in the Andes, now a national historic site. He married on July 8, 1951 in Concepcion. After surviving the massive 1960 earthquake, John, his wife, and three children emigrated to the U.S. and settled in Portland, Oregon where he lived until his death. He is survived by his immediate family and five grandchildren.

John's father, John F. McInnes, was born in 1892 in Chile. His grandfather, also named John McInnes, was born in 1863 in Scotland and emigrated to Chile with his wife some time between 1888 and 1892, probably for economic reasons. He most likely worked in the mining industry.
