Michael "Mike Vallo" P. Vaccarello, 76, of Rockford died suddenly at 11:40 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, 2008, in OSF Saint Anthony Med-ical Center.
He was the son of Peter and Pietrina Vaccarello. He lived most of his life in Rockford. He married Janet Kuczynski in Carmel, Calif., by the sea Aug. 29, 1972.
Mike was a singer, entertainer and restaurateur in Rockford, Las Vegas and California. He was a peacetime veteran serving with the U.S. Navy. He was a member of ASCAP. Mike enjoyed having his whole family around him celebrating true Sicilian dinners. He was very kind and concerned about everybody else's well-being. Truly a gentleman of integrity, who still believed in the value of a handshake.
Survivors included his wife, Janet; daughter, Trish (Henry) Salomon of Wisconsin; brothers, Steve (Ione) of Rockford and Paul (Gayle) of Naperville; nephew, Peter (Lena) Vaccarello of Elgin; aunts; cousins; and special friend and pet, Brandy. Predeceased by parents; nephew, Stephen Vaccarello; and loyal pets, Pepper and Cookie.
Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, in Holy Family Church, with visitation from 9 a.m. to time of service; Monsignor Thomas E. Bales will officiate.
Interment in Calvary Cemetery.
