According to his birth record at Familysearch.org, he had the middle initial of "L." That might have been a misreading of an "H."

In a letter to Julie Busch of Omaha, John & Louise's daughter Esther said that she and John had presumed the other boys went to stay for awhile with their Aunt Sadie Brown and grandfather Robert Brown in NYC after their father William Howe died. This sounds like John wasn't with the other boys for some reason. This isn't clear as to where he would have been.

John married Louise Lueke in Omaha, Nebraska in November 1910.

The 1910 Schuyler, Colfax Co., NE census for Moses Robeson "Rob" Galbraith and Lulu Jane (Iles) Howe Galbraith, who was John's mother, listed John 25 NY, a Mary Howe 21 NE, and John's brother George Howe. Mary was listed as a daughter, but I think she might have been John's wife Louise because of where she was listed. Or, the listing of a Mary Howe could have been a mistake by the census taker. William & Lulu (Iles) Howe didn't have any daughters. There were several mistakes in the listing of the Galbraith family in this 1910 census.

PBS sometimes shows an Orphan Train documentary from about 1959. It shows how Schuyler, NE was one of the stops on the Orphan Train from NYC. The Orphan Train was an effort to move boys who were orphans or disadvantaged, such as having alcoholic parents, to be raised in rural communities throughout the country. John Howe along with Moses & Lulu Galbraith were listed in the Schuyler, NE newspaper as being on a committee in Schuyler, NE to help find homes for boys when the train would stop there. That information can be seen in the documentary.

John's 1917-1918 WWI draft card has him living in Omaha with his wife Louise Howe. It says that at that time he was 33 and working as a RR mail clerk.

They had a daughter Louise Esther Howe. The photo I have of Esther as a child has her name written on the back as "Esther Howe."

The 1920 census for Omaha, Ward 1, Douglas Co., NE listed:
John Howe 35 NY
Louise Howe 30 NE
L. Esther Howe 4 NE

The 1930 Omaha census has John 45 NY, Louise 40 NE, Esther 15 NE and widowed Adelia Whitney 81 NY listed as John's mother-in-law. Adelia Whitney, who was the widow of Eben Benjamin Whitney, doesn't appear to have been Louise Howe's mother. I suspect that she was visiting the Howe's and the census taker mistakenly took her to be Louise's mother. The 1900 census for Eben & Adelia Whitney show Eben & Adelia Whitney having a daughter Dora E. Whitney b. January 1890. Familysearch.org also shows a marriage for this daughter Dorothy E. Whitney in 1911 to a Harvey I. Chesnut.
