Laura M. Bury, 98, died at 9:35 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2003, at York Hospital. She was the wife of the late Gerald 'Petie' Bury, who was founder of Bury's Famous Hamburgers in York.

Born in Craley, York County, May 8, 1905, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth (Silar) Smeltzer. She was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church; and a past member of York Hospital Auxiliary.

She leaves a daughter, Anna Bankert of York; three sons, Joseph Bury and John Bury, both of York, and Charles Bury of Lancaster; two sisters, Dorcas Althoff of York and Ethel Grim of York; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Paul Bury and Gerald Bury Jr.; a grandson; and a great-grandson.

Funeral service is 11 a.m. Saturday at the Etzweiler Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1111 E. Market St., York, with her pastor, the Rev. Charles W. McCulloh, Jr., officiating.

Burial is in Mount Rose Cemetery. Viewing is from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 241 E. King St., York, PA 17403; or to a favorite charity.

The Bury family would like to express their appreciation to Autumn House East in York for the loving care extended to their mother.
