Elvera F. (Gabel) Yost passed away on Aug. 24, 2014, at St. John’s Lutheran Home. She was born Aug. 8, 1918, in Toppenish, Wash., to Conrad and Elizabeth (Wolfe) Gabel.

Elvera grew up on the family farm, west of Billings, and was the youngest of ten children. She attended Elysian School, worked on the family farm, in a cafeteria and at the Billings Airport food service. On Feb. 23, 1946, she married Robert “Bob” Yost. They farmed and ranched west of Billings for over 40 years. Elvera was a lifelong member of Pilgrim Congregational Church. She enjoyed baking and cooking and worked as a cooking aide at Canyon Creek School for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brothers, Willy, Edmund and Floyd, and her sisters, Molly, Mary Hein, Margret Rutt, Anna Lovelace, Sara Heiser and Frieda Knaub.

She is survived by her children, Kayrene (Robert) Kraft, of Laurel, Bonnie (Barry) Kinsfather, of Billings, and Mel (Vicki) Yost, of Belgrade; eight grandchildren, Rob (Diane) Kraft, Tammy (Jason) Robertus, Jason (Jennifer) Kinsfather, Rebecca Kinsfather (Patrick), Amanda Williams (Olana), Nicole Yost, Shayna Williams, Kelsi (Kes) Nebiye, seven great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Ruth Yost and Elsie Gabel, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug., 29, at Pilgrim Congregational Church in Billings.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to a charity of choice. The family would like to thank the staff of St. John’s Crossing in Laurel, St. John’s Lutheran Home and Rocky Mountain Hospice for their loving care. Condolences for the family may be left at smithfuneralchapels.com.
