Gladys Georgia Johnson, age 93 years, a resident of Tunnel Hill, passed away Monday afternoon, August 25, 2014, at 5:07 PM at Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Metropolis.
Gladys was born on April 20, 1921 in Effingham, Illinois. She was the daughter of Claude Parkhurst and Maggie (Sheehan) Parkhurst.
Gladys was united in marriage to Verna “Vernie” Johnson on August 3, 1939 in Charleston, Missouri. He preceded her in death on January 16, 2000.
Survivors include:
Her Children- Arlene (Jerry) Price of Tunnel Hill, Roy Val Gene (Dorothy) Johnson of Goreville, Roger (Debbie) Johnson of Buncombe, Janet (Richard) Alsip of Vienna; 12 grandchildren; several great and great great grandchildren.
Gladys was the youngest of 9 brothers and sisters, who have all preceded her in death. Additionally she was preceded in death by her parents, husband and her adoptive parents Walter and Ida Calbroth.
Gladys had attended the Community of Christ (Webb) Church. She was a homemaker and enjoyed quilting, gardening, flowers, cooking and working jigsaw puzzles.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at 11AM at the Community of Christ Church in Tunnel Hill. Dr. Glenn Webb will officiate.Burial will be in the New Salem Cemetery near Tunnel Hill.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 10 AM – 11 AM at the Community of Christ Church.
