He served in the Navy during WWII and later joined his father in the operation of the Imperial Shoe store. In 1929 he joined the investment securities firm of H. and B. Beer & Co., and in 1942 moved to the Steiner-Rouse & Co. from which he retired in 1973.

He was survived by his second wife, Dorothea Schlesinger Cahn, a daughter, a son, six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
