James C. Fuchs, 83, of Mayflower Nursing Home, Plymouth, died there at 10:10 a.m. Saturday. He was a retired independent construction contractor. Born Feb. 8, 1908 in Lakeville, he had lived in Cloverdale, Ind., the past 15 years, coming from Lakeville.


His wife, Lucille, died in 1987. Surviving are four daughters, Loretta Rensberger of LaPorte, Elizabeth Mumford of Auburn, Ind., Carol Sue Wiltrout of Mishawaka and Christine Fuch of Princeton, Fla.; four sons, Tommy of Walkerton, Fred of Nareuja, Fla., Richard H. of Mishawaka and Mitchell A. of Racine, Wis.; 19 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Alice Grimes of South Bend and Julia Wozny of Lakeville; and six brothers, John, Burdette "Spooner", Charles "Fritz", Ross and Bobby, all of Lakeville, and Jack of South Bend.


Mr. Fuchs was a member of Lakeville American Legion Post 363 and a Navy veteran of World War II.


Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in Palmer Funeral Home. Cremation will follow
