Born Joseph Gellhaus to German parents Barney and Catherine Gellhaus, Father Victor Gellhaus, O.S.B., was a Catholic priest, professor, and a Benedictine monk of St. Benedict's Abbey in Atchison, Kansas.

Fr. Victor served his novitiate at St. Vincent's Archabbey and College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, where he professed monastic vows on July 2, 1916. He was ordained a Catholic priest at St. Benedict's in Atchison on June 1, 1922. He was principal of St. Benedict's High School from 1924-1927, and after further studies in Germany, a professor at the Benedictine College, where he was Chairman of the Department of History for nearly 30 years, from 1934-1963. He retired in 1967, and died ten years later, age 79.
