Leonard Robert Kersten, 86, died Monday, May 21, 2001, at Mercy Hospital, Janesville.
He was born Aug. 26, 1914, in Evansville, the son of Frank and Margaret (Milbrandt) Kersten. He married Bernice Buehl on Sept. 28, 1940, at St. Johns Lutheran Church, Janesville; she preceded him in death in 1981. He later married Lorraine Valley; she also preceded him in death. He grew up in the Evansville area, then farmed in the Johnstown, Fulton and Milton areas. He also worked at Highway Trailer, Edgerton and Baker Manufacturing, Evansville.
He is survived by a son, Gary (Connie) Kersten of New Ulm, Minn.; three daughters: Sharon (Gordon) Hensley of Milton; Darlene (Lewie) Rosenow of Milton, Marcella (Richard) Rosenow of Poynette; a sister, Eileen (Bud) Dorn of Janesville; 16 grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a son and daughter-in-law, Daryl and Valerie Kersten; a sister, Helen Dietrich; a grandchild, Leslie Kildow; and a great-grandchild, Austin Bunker.
Funeral services will be held today, May 24, 2001, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Brodhead. Rev. Randy Krause will officiate. Burial will be at the Greenwood Cemetery at a later date. Ward Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
