Funeral services for Delores Cecilia Pries were held Sept. 6 at Faith Lutheran Church in Parkston.
Burial was in the Parkston Protestant Cemetery with Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Parkston in charge of arrangements.
Delores Cecilia Pries was born Sept. 28, 1927, in Butler, to Sophia (Mathiason) Martin and Nick Martin. Her mother, Sophia, died when she was an infant, and she spent her early childhood with her Aunt Rose and Uncle Dell Walton on a farm in rural Webster. Nick remarried Mamie Holschler, and she spent time with both families through school. She graduated from Webster High School in 1945 and went on to beautician school.
She married Gerald Pries Sept. 17, 1950. They moved to Waubay, where she worked out of their home as a beautician.
In 1965, they moved to Parkston, where she began working as the office assistant for a local veterinarian. She was active in the American Legion Auxiliary, Faith Lutheran Ladies’ Aid and Birthday Club.
Shortly after Gerald passed away in December 2006, she moved to Avera Assisted Living.
In the last few years of her life, she moved to Michigan to be with her son, Jeff and his family.
She died Tuesday, Sept. 2, at the age of 86 years.
She is survived by her three children, Gary (Dianne) Pries, Sioux Falls, Jeff (Renee) Pries, Rochester Hills, Mich., and Laurie Zirpel, Fort Worth, Texas; brother, David Martin, Sioux Falls; sisters, Julie Kinstad, Sioux Falls, and Barb Herrick Mitchell; six grandchildren, Kara (Todd) Storm, Ryan (Melanie) Pries, Stephanie (Joseph) Stenberg, Jessica Pries, Michael Zirpel, and Taryn Zirpel; and two great-grandsons, Everett and Oscar Stenberg.
She was preceded in death by her husband; mother and father; and brother, Frank Martin.
