Glenn Richard Jeckel was born 11/11/1930 in Cleveland, Ohio to Leonard and Bessie May Jeckel. They moved to Glendale, California, in 1939. Glenn loved to play with and took care of many horses, dogs, and other animals. He also learned to play trombone, which became a lifelong passion.

Glenn attended Glendale High School where his highlight was playing in the Marching Band. After graduating, he attended Glendale Community College and received his AA degree before joining the United States Army. He was stationed in Germany and was able to travel to different countries throughout Europe. In later years, he talked about "regretting the time I missed going to Paris," as he went to Holland instead that particular weekend.

After his four year service, Glenn was accepted into UC Davis and 18 months at UC Berkley, graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Business.

He went to work for first Kern County, then later the State of California as a Property Appraiser for the now defunct Savings & Loan Administration. He became very adept at home as well as commercial property appraising and was moved up the ladder to Senior Appraiser for the remaining years of his career.

In 1959, Glenn met Helene Desaulniers in Burbank, CA, through mutual friends. They had a deep love of music in common. Helene was a very accomplished player of piano, saxophone, and clarinet. She was extroverted and fun loving. As Glenn was more introverted, quiet, and happy to stay in the background; it was a case of "opposites attract". They married the following year and had three children: Celeste, Linda, and Richard. Glenn was known as a supportive and responsible husband and parent. Catholic Church and school were mainstays in the household. Both Glenn and Helen volunteered for many carnivals, scouts, bingo nights, and any other event that they could help with at school and church alike. He was willing to chauffeur to and from concerts, proms, dinners, dates and rehearsals.

Every year, Glenn made sure there was a family vacation. He was able to take several weeks off in the summer, so there were trips to the Grand Canyon, Coronado Island, Mammoth Mountain, and his favorite, June Lake. He loved fishing and being in the mountains. He was patient with three small children learning to navigate fishing poles, taking what seemed like eternal knots out of fishing wire and making sure no one got hurt.

Glenn and Helen resided in Los Angeles until 1988. Upon Glenn's retirement they moved to Oceanside, California, where he was very happy to devote his time to his favorite hobby: music. By then, he had also taught himself to play the trumpet and guitar.

Glenn was a member of both the Pacific Coast Concert Band and a dixieland jazz group called the Harmonaires in North County. He loved going to practice sessions and performing for many years until ill health forced him to stop playing his beloved trombone.

Glenn and Helen were able to do some traveling before Helen was disabled. One last family trip to Hawaii in 1984, a big trip to England/Ireland, and one to Glacier National Park were highlights of their travels. He would buy pins at these places, and had a baseball cap with his "travels" pinned to it. This cap along with his Members Only jacket, were his everyday "look". He never went anywhere without them.

Glenn passed away March 1st, 2016. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helene, in 2012. He is survived by his three children and 2 granddaughters, Kimberly and Victoria Jeckel. His calm nature and thoughtful wisdom will be greatly missed.
