MURPHYSBORO -- Edward K. "Mr. H" Hufnagel, 74, passed away after a brief illness at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003, in the V.A. Medical Center in Marion.

A celebration of his life will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, in Pettett Funeral Home, with the Revs. Rolland and Janice Devor officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Memorial Park. There will be no visitation.

Mr. Hufnagel was born Nov. 19, 1928, in Murphysboro, to Edward Kasper Hufnagel Sr. and Nell Marie (Torbett) Hufnagel. He married Lawana Nadine Mattingly on Nov. 6, 1952, in Murphysboro, and she survives.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

He was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church in Murphysboro.

He had worked for 31 years at Olin Mathieson, retiring as a quality assurance manager.

He has worked the past five years as an administrative aide at CCHS, where he was affectionately known as "Mr. H."

"Mr. H" touched many lives with his love, kindness and consideration. He loved working crossword puzzles, rising early and fixing things. He enjoyed walks through the countryside, but his strength was that he could calm you down in any situation.

Besides his wife, he is survived by one son and his fiancee, Marc Hufnagel and Julia Cook; two granddaughters, Brittany and Jessica, all of Murphysboro; two brothers-in-law, Ransom Mattingly of Carmi and Donnie Mattingly and his wife Thelma of Cynthianana, Ky.; and a dear friend, Cheryl Rich of Carbondale.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.

Edward is remembered for his numerous quotes of "no sad faces," "this too will pass," but especially "thy will be done."
