Kody Robert Cosby, 19, of Baker City, died Nov. 4, 2008, at Pendleton.
There will be a celebration of his life at 1 p.m. Saturday at the First Church of the Nazarene, 1250 Hughes Lane. Pastor Matt Cook of Pleasant Valley Fellowship will officiate.
Kody was born on Oct. 2, 1989, at Baker City to Lance R. Cosby and Jennifer L. Johnston. He was a 2008 Baker High School graduate.
While in high school, he was a member and president of the Baker High School Rodeo Club. He was also an FFA member and proudly wore his FFA jacket while riding a saddle bronc horse at State Convention this year.
Kody was an outdoor person. He loved to hunt deer and elk with his family and enjoyed hunting ducks and birds with his friends and his little brother, Dally. He recently went bow hunting with his Uncle Charlie in Montana.
He was also a fine horseman and rode horses and started colts for people. While on horseback, he had a true talent for roping. He was an excellent roper and many people envied his ability to swing a loop.
Kody loved ranch life and had worked for many ranchers, lending a hand or a rope if needed. He was studying livestock production and wanted to be a rancher.
Kody was a saddle bronc rider. He lived to get on a good bucking horse and had won many buckles. He qualified for State High School Finals all four years and National High School Finals the last three years. He recently competed at the Idaho Cowboy Association Finals at Nampa.
Kody was an excellent cowboy and made friends wherever he went, family members said.
“There was always a friend behind the bucking chutes to cheer him on,” they said. “He was well-liked and a very respectful young man and will be missed in the sport of rodeo.”
Kody was a Christian and a member of Pleasant Valley Fellowship.
“He knew he was going to be in the arms of the Lord. He was a beautiful individual,” his family said.
Survivors include his parents, Lance Cosby and his wife, Kadie, of Baker City and Jennifer Zoon and her husband, Bruce, of Victor, Colo.; siblings, Katy, Landen and Dally Cosby of Baker City and Samantha and Hannah Zoon of Victor, Colo.; grandparents, Doug and Linda Cosby, Kent and Beverly Justus and Beverly “Tootie” Johnston, all of Baker City, and Wally and Vickie Zoon of Brownsville.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Tom Johnston.
