Mrs. Janet Tatum Davenport, 73, of Tatum Road, Mocksville died Friday, Nov. 12, 2004, at her home. Mrs. Davenport was born April 17, 1931, in Forsyth County to the late Ezra Carl and Jamie Mauney Tatum Sr. She was an early childhood education specialist, food service manager and home care provider. Mrs. Davenport held a master's degree in religious education from Southwestern Theological Seminary and a bachelor's degree in home economics education from Meredith College. She was a census enumerator and a local volunteer. Mrs. Davenport was a member of First Baptist Church, Cooleemee. She was preceded in death by her husband, Christopher Rudolph Tatum on Oct. 27, 1992. Survivors include a daughter, Kay Oliver of Hughesville, Md.; two sons, Andrew L. Davenport of Orlando, Fla. and J. Christopher Davenport of Salem, N.J.; three grandchildren, Cara Davenport, Jakob Davenport and Elise Davenport; a sister, Ellen T. Young of New Bern; and a brother, Frank M. Tatum of Mocksville. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, at First Baptist Church in Cooleemee with the Rev. Tommy Register officiating. Interment will follow at a later date in Myersville, Md. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 15, at Eaton Funeral Home in Mocksville. The family requests that memorials be considered for First Baptist Church of Cooleemee, P.O. Box 518, Cooleemee, NC 27014 or Storehouse For Jesus Building Fund, 464 Depot St., Mocksville, NC 27028.
