Allister Adrian Etzel - Born in Brooklyn, NY Jan 19th, 1927, son of the late Paul J. Etzel and Isabelle McAllister Etzel. He was also the Grandson of the late James P. McAllister, founder of McAllister Tug, Inc. With family by his beside, Allister passed away on Oct 18th, 2014 at the Calvary Hospital in Bronx, NY. He is survived by his 2nd wife Carol Silvaney, his sons, Michael and Jay Etzel, his daughter Kate Etzel and her spouse Laura Etzel; his grandchildren, Sarah and Maddie Etzel; his sister Suzanne Love; his brother Gerard Etzel; m-i-l, Elizabeth Silvaney; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A veteran of World War II having served in the Philippines, Allister graduated from Georgetown University in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science in Government. He moved to the Westchester area in 1965 where he raised his 3 children with his 1st wife, the late Joan Mikkelsen Etzel. A Vice President for National Westminster Bank, Allister was a well-respected member of the Mount Kisco, NY community, serving as long time volunteer and President of the Mount Kisco Lions Club. He also served as a volunteer for Northern Westchester Hospital's Endoscopy Unit after his retirement from banking at age 67. In 1997, Allister met Carol Silvaney on Butternut ski slope in MA. For the next 17 years, they had a life filled with love, laughter, peace and adventure as they traveled to Ireland, Alaska, Eastern Europe, Canada, Scandinavia and Russia. They lived in Garth Woods in Scarsdale, NY where he was on the board of directors. During the last year of his life, Allister fought a long hard battle against Cancer. Carol and his family were with him every step of the way, trying to overcome the odds. He lived his life with unparalleled grace, humility and humor, always the gentleman that touched so many. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society's Hope Lodge in New York, NY. Calling hours will be on Oct 21st at the Edwin L. Bennett Funeral Home in Scarsdale, NY from 2-4 and 7-9. The funeral will be on Oct 22nd, at 10:00 at the Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Scarsdale, NY where he was a parishioner.
