Jerome, Idaho - Alvin Richard Chojnacky, 75, of Jerome, passed away at his home on Friday October 24, 2014. He was born December 16, 1938, in Jerome, the son of Richard Vincent Chojnacky and Bertha Mary Savelberg Chojnacky. Alvin was raised in Jerome and graduated from Jerome High School in 1957. While attending a YMCA dance, he met Elizabeth Andrews and they were married October 19, 1963. They made their home in Jerome, where they raised six children. Most of Alvin's working years were spent farming. He was engaged in various civic duties as well, including Rotary International, South Central Community Action, the Jerome School Board and service as a Jerome County Commissioner. He also served for several years in the United States Army Reserve. Alvin was a lifelong member of St. Jerome Catholic Church and a member of Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed working in his garden and he especially loved people. And, "by golly," he never knew a stranger. Alvin will be remembered as a happy, friendly and kind servant who always saw the good in others.
Alvin is survived by his sweetheart of more than 51 years, Elizabeth Chojnacky of Jerome; their children, Ed (Tina) Chojnacky of Jerome, Ellen (Steven) Drown of Jerome, Mark (Lori) Chojnacky of Mackinaw, Illinois, Matt (Angela) Chojnacky of Jerome, Ann (Gary) Showers of Jerome and Andrew (Danielle) Chojnacky of Meridian. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and many extended family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Mary Lou Stacek, and two brothers, Lee Chojnacky and Vincent Chojnacky.
A Vigil service with Rosary will be conducted at 7:00 PM, Wednesday October 29, 2014, at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 216 2nd Avenue East, Jerome, with a visitation beginning at 6:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM, Thursday October 30, 2014, also at St. Jerome Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Jerome Cemetery. Alvin's family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made in his name to:
St. Jerome Building Fund, PO Box 169, Jerome, ID 83338; or South Central Community Action, 550 Washington St. South, Twin Falls, ID 83301; or to the charity of your choice. Arrangements are under the care of Farnsworth Mortuary of Jerome.
