Deane H. Duerkop, 84, Altoona, died Tuesday, March 28, 2006, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire.

He was born in the town of Hallie on February 20, 1922, the son of Andrew and Charlotte (Cook) Duerkop. Deane married Mary Fisher at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on June 14, 1947. He was a very loving husband, father and grandfather. Deane was very outgoing and loved to visit with people. His hobbies included fishing, golf and yard work. Deane was very active in his grandchildren's sporting events and was very family oriented.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; his daughters, Janet (Larry) Cornell and Patricia (Charles) Domer, all of Eau Claire; his sons, John Duerkop of Appleton and Richard (Val) Duerkop of Rothchild; a brother, Lawrence (Betty) Duerkop of Strum; a sister, Bernice Ackerman of Eau Claire; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two daughters-in-law, Roylene Duerkop and Maria Duerkop; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Deane Jr.; his first wife, Irene; four brothers, Russell, Cletos, Lyman and Lyle; a sister, Helen; and a grandson, Larry Cornell Jr.

Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Altoona, with the Rev. Norbert Wilger officiating. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Eau Claire. Family and friends may call on Friday an hour before services at the church.
