Mae was born on May 30, 1927 to Henry and Esther (Gerlach) Hohnstein in Clay County. She was baptized and confirmed in the Evangelical United Brethern Church. The family moved to Stockhom, NE, and later to Harvard, NE, where she graduated from high school in 1944.
Mae married James H. Morgan on July 2, 1945 in Mankato, KS. They had three children, Charles, Jerry, and Suzan. Mae and Jim divorced in 1969.
Mae was employed at the Harvard Air Base during WWII. She also worked at the Weyerhauser Box factory for five years. From there she worked at the J. M. McDonald’s Warehouse in Accounts Payable. In 1968 she moved to the Denver area as Office Manager for the McDonald’s store at the Cinderella City Mall. She retired from J. M. McDonald’s in 1982. She then worked for Aurora Disposal as an insurance and payroll clerk until retiring from there in 1989. She returned to Hastings in 1991.
She was a member of the Harvard V.F.W. Auxiliary.
She is survived by her children, Charles (Peg) Morgan of Greeley, CO and Sue (Ron) Uden of Prosser, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren, daughter-in-law, Cathy Morgan of Hastings, brother, Clint Hohnstein of Cozad, sister-in-law, Marjorie Hohnstein of Aurora, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Jerry Morgan, and brother, Gerald Hohnstein.
