Adolph Mayer, an old and well-known Hazletonian, at one time Street Commissioner of this city and for several years superintendent of the Hazleton Gas Works, who had been seriously ill for the last few days, expired yesterday afternoon shortly before 4 o'clock at his late home, on East Chestnut street. The funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon. Interment in Vine street cemetery.
Mr. Mayer was born in Wittenberg, Germany, October 9, 1826. In 1848 he emigrated to America and settled down at Mauch Chunk, from where he came to Hazleton. Since 1872 he resided in this city, during which time he was one of our most respected and honored citizens.
Seven children, John, Harry, William, Howard, George, Oliver and Mrs. William Hill survive him.
Services will be conducted at the house by Revs. O.S. Metzler and Wagner.

The will of Adolph Mayer, of Hazleton, was probated yesterday. He devotes his life insurance to his funeral expenses and debts. He gives his son, John L., $2,000 and a lot in Danville. He gives to his son, Henry S., $2,000. He gives to his son, William S., $100. He gives to his son, Howard, $300. To his son, George R., he gives $700 and all the household effects, except the piano and the bed he last occupied. To his daughter, Margaret Jane Hill, he gives $700, the piano and the bed above mentioned. To his son, Oliver C., he gives $700. To his son, Gustave Adolph, $300. To his granddaughter, Maggie Boylen, he gives $100. The balance of the money he directs shall be divided equally among the following persons: John L., Henry S., George R. Mayer, Maggie Jane Hill and Oliver C. Mayer. All his tools shall be divided among the same. John L. Mayer is name as executor of the will, which is dated December 20, 1894. The estate is valued at $5,300.
