Doug was born in 1927 to Lyle and Eula (Axtell) Scherf in West Cohasset, MN. He was united in marriage to Catherine Riehle on August 9, 1949. For many years, Doug worked as a shift supervisor at Blandin Paper Company where he retired from on February 28, 1989. In his retirement, Doug enjoyed woodworking, fishing, gardening and hunting.
Preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers, Dean, Melvin, and Pete; and one sister, Leona.
Doug is survived by his wife of 65 years, Catherine; three daughters: Jane (Jeff) Shaffer, Joann (Rick Rogers) Scherf, and Gayle (Steve) Fuller; three granddaughters, Angella (Joe) Bibich, Carrie (Joe) Riley, and Allison Rogers; two grandsons, Doug (Jeni) Shaffer, Greg (Jenny) Shaffer; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Inurnment in Itasca-Calvary Cemetery.
