Ruthie Nell Haynes was born December 18, 1946 to Leroy B.T. Washington, Sr. and Mary Eloise Washington Howard. On January 14, 2010, Missionary Haynes joined the heavenly host.

She is preceded in death by her father, Leroy B. T. Washington, Sr.; mother, Mary Eloise Howard; two sisters, Betty Harvey and Mary Ann Rodgers; and one brother, Leroy B. T. Washington, Jr.

A longtime resident of Galveston County, she was employed with UTMB Hospital in Galveston with Central Supply until her retirement. She was a faithful and longtime member of the Church of God in Christ where she actively served as a Missionary at La Marque Chapel Church of God in Christ in Texas City, Texas.

Left to celebrate her victory in Jesus are her devoted husband, Minister Joe M. Haynes; her sons, Fredrick Washington, Samuel Smith, Jr., Terry Lee Smith, Tyrone Lavall Smith, Sr. and Anthony Travel Smith; step-sons, Charles Haynes and Chris Haynes; step-daughter, Tino Deno; sisters, Frankie M. Fennell (Jessie), Gloria Jean Cooper (Anthony); brother, Roy L. Washington, Sr., (Linda); 15 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, her Church of God in Christ Family, other family members and friends.

Services will be held at Sanford's Temple Church of God in Christ, 5508 Phillips St. in Texas City with visitation beginning at 4:00 PM Friday, January 22nd followed by a Memorial Service from 7:00 to 8:00 PM. The Home Going Celebration will be 1:00 PM Saturday, January 23, 2010 at the church. Elder Rosevelt Sanford, pastor, Supt. Harry E. Allen, officiant and Evangelist Jerry Haynes, eulogist. Burial will follow at Mainland Memorial Cemetery in Hitchcock under the direction of Mainland Funeral Home of La Marque.
