He married Anna Haldimann and together, they later immigrated from Bern, Switzerland in March 1851 with their children. According to Jacob Buhlman's obituary, Jacob was the last surviving child of Anna and Johann (John)'s eleven children.
Johannes operated a farm in Near Iowa Falls, Iowa by 1860 - but also established roots in Saux City and later Waunakee, Wisconsin. He died in Madison, Wisconsin in 1886.
