Arnold McCarthy 1940-2010

Surrounded by his loving family, Arnold Joseph McCarthy, Grand Falls, NB, passed away peacefully at Hotel-Dieu of St. Joseph Hospital, Perth-Andover on Sunday, June 13, 2010, at the age of 69. He bravely fought his battle with cancer with dignity. Born at Grand Falls, NB on October 20, 1940, he was the beloved son of the late Leoma and Helen (McGrath) McCarthy.

Arnold was a farmer, and a school bus driver in the Grand Falls area for 32 years. However, he had to quit driving school bus 10 years ago when he was struck with a severe case of rheumatoid arthritis. He had a great rapport with the young people and missed being with them and his fellow bus drivers. Arnold was also a very compassionate person who was only too willing to help other people in their personal struggles.

Arnold is survived by his eight precious sons; Corey (Ursula Kasperczyk), Toronto; Larry (Veronica Rosito), Calgary; Patrick A. (Laurie-Ann Patoine), Quebec City; Troy, Toronto; Todd (Marlene), Perth-Andover; Rodney (Debbie), Grand Falls Portage; Tony, Grand Falls Portage; and Jody, Toronto; and their mother Ann McCarthy, Grand Falls Portage. He will be greatly missed by his nine grandchildren; Kylee, Dylan, Chelsey, Cassandra, Logan, Brooke, Rosalie, Julia and Kamille. Also surviving are one sister, Charlene Pinette (Peter), Caribou, Maine; and four brothers; Farrell (Edna), Miramichi, NB; Cyril (Anna), Grand Falls Portage; Vincent, Toronto; and Bernard, Grand Falls; one uncle Ivan McCarthy, and one aunt Margaret McCarthy, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a wide circle of friends. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by many uncles and aunts.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St. Patrick's Church on Wednesday, June 16th at 11 a.m. with Father Gilbert Doddatto officiating. The pallbearers were his sons, Larry, Troy, Patrick, Todd, Rodney and Jody McCarthy. Interment followed in St. Patrick's Cemetery.
