When Johann Andreas (Andrew) Lewick was born on June 11, 1829, in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, his father, Johann, was 26 and his mother, Christine, was 22. He married Cornelia Emerick on Oct 6, 1852 and they had two children (Emma and William Gottlieb).


He left Michigan for California sometime before 1860 and resided in Kelsey Township, Eldorado County, California, for a short period of time.

He then married Catharine Doherty (Common Law) and they had five children together between 1865 and 1877. He died on September 30, 1883, in Sacramento County, California, at the age of 54.
