son of Ozias Crooke (1801-1851) born in Kentucky m Charlotte Sims in 1827. 8 children

son of Major John Crooke (2/10/1765-3/17/1849) m 1/5/1786 to Ann Doggett Reeves (1767-1823). He was born in St Mary's County, Maryland. He enlisted in Revolutionary war. 13 children: Lydia; Jabez; Sally; Polly; Betsy; John R; Olly; Hezekiah "Kiah"; Ozias; Asa; twins William & Franklin; & Eli. The children all moved to Indiana at an early day, except Jabez, who lived in Garrard County, and Kiah, who lived in Madison. Major John Crooke mastered arithmetics, understood navigation, could box the compass, and made almanacs. He could count the eclipses of the sun and moon. He was a great penman and always wrote with a quill pen. He made a great many tables of numbers such as tables of logarithims and the Transverse tables. He, his wife, his father, and brother Hezekiah emigrated from Virginia to Kentucky in 1789. He was elected county surveyor in 1795 and held the office until 1847, a period of 52 years, when he resigned two years before his death.
