Berter Jane Troutman, age 83, of Laurel, Indiana died Saturday morning November 22, 2014 at the Brookville Healthcare Center in Brookville, Indiana.

Born August 12, 1931 in Vonore, Tennessee she was the daughter of the late John B. & Iva Lee (Gentry) Summey. On July 3, 1948 she was united in marriage to Melvin E. Troutman Sr., and he preceded her in death on March 8, 1997.

In her leisure time she enjoyed reading, and working in her flower garden.

Survivors include three daughters & sons-in-law, Charlotte Elaine (Vernon) Chaney of Hamilton, Ohio, Mary Ann (Scott) Tann of Sugarland, Texas and Berta Maria (Rant) Anderson of Laurel, Indiana; three sons & daughters-in-law, Melvin Eugene (Penny) Troutman Jr. of Ross, Ohio, James Elmer (Cary) Troutman of Westport, Indiana, Howard Lee (Janice) Troutman of Hamilton, Ohio; a daughter-in-law, Connie Troutman of Fairview, Indiana; a sister, Maxine Clark of Liberty, Indiana; eight half brothers & sisters, Michael Summey, Ed Summey, Jerry Summey, Brenda Tomlin, Joyce Davis, Jenny Ryckman, Ramona Alig, Gayle Kaiser; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, and husband, Melvin, she was preceded in death by a son Allison C. “Dale” Troutman, two sisters, Minnie Watson and Effie Mae Summey; two brothers, Howard Summey and Walter Summey.

Family & friends may visit from 5 till 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home, 1025 Franklin Avenue, Brookville.

Pastor Tom Marshall of the Blooming Grove Family Worship Church will officiate the Funeral Services at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Laurel North Cemetery.
