Robert G. Helmchen, 79 of Valparaiso, Indiana went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 22, 2014. He was born April 8, 1935 near Berlin, Germany. He came to Fort Wayne in January of 1962. Robert worked at Howard’s Photo Lab. before joining General Telephone of Indiana (GTE) in 1965 until he retired in 1990 in Valparaiso. He owned and operated RGH VIDEO from 1995 to 2013. Robert is survived by his loving wife of 45 years Judy Ann (Murphy) Helmchen of Valparaiso, his daughter Liane Helmchen, his son Rainer Helmchen, granddaughter Katelyn Helmchen, sisters Lonni Helmchen and Ingrid (James) Sheets, all of Fort Wayne. He was preceded in death by his parents Willi and Hertha (Schluessler) Helmchen and his daughter Christel Rene Helmchen. Visitation will be at Bartholomew Funeral Home, 102 Monroe St., Valparaiso on Tuesday, November 25th from 4-7 PM with services to follow. Pastor Joseph Ostafinski will officiate. Committal services will be at 1:00 PM Fort Wayne time on Wednesday at the Concordia Lutheran Cemetery Gardens, 5365 Lake Ave., Fort Wayne. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the VNA Horton Hospice Center in Valparaiso or the Donor’s Choice.
