Retired United Methodist Pastor, Carl N. Rutherford, 84, of Selinsgrove, passed away Monday, December 1, 2014 at
Emeritus at Grayson View Nursing Home, where he had been a resident for the past two years. He was born October 4,
1930 in Bratton Twp., Mifflin County, a son to the late Nelson and Alma (Moist) Rutherford.
Carl was a graduate of Rothrock High School, Juniata College, and, in 1957, Wesley Seminary, having served
Wolfsburg Church from 1955-1957.
His recommending church was McVeytown. Other appointments he served included Elysburg, Conyngham,
Selinsgrove-Shamokin Dam, Berwick First, New Bloomfield, Craley-New Bridgeville and Montgomery-Maple Hill. He
served as chairman of the Central Pennsylvania Historical Society, Chairman of the Hazleton-Enlarged Ministry,
Moving Co-Ordinator, Archives and History Commission, and was a member of the Snyder County Historical Society
and Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society. He retired in Mifflinville in 1992, and then moved to Selinsgrove in 2005
to be closer to his daughter, Susan and her family.
His loves and interests included his family, railroads and trains, especially the Pennsylvania Railroad, and geneology.
His greatest love, however; was of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Surviving Carl are his daughter, Susan Reisinger and her husband, Gene of Selinsgrove, grandchildren, Hans Reisinger
of Somerset and Kirsta Reisinger and her husband, Chris Kilps of New Columbia, great-granddaughter, Cadence
Kilpsinger, sister, Phyllis House of McVeytown, brother, Gary Rutherford of McVeytown, many nieces and nephews,
and a few cousins.
Preceding Carl in death were his loving wife, blessed with a union of almost fifty years, the former Arlene Redline,
sister, Shirley McVey of Newton Hamilton and brother, Stanley Rutherford of Lewistown.
Carl's viewing is 2:00-3:00 PM Saturday, December 6 at the Kelchner-McMichael-Baker Funeral Home, 119-121 E.
3rd St., Berwick. Graveside services and burial will follow at the Mifflinville Cemetery. A memorial service will be
held 2:00 PM Sunday, December 7 at the Wesley United Methodist Church, 306 Rhoads Ave., Selinsgrove, PA. 17870.
Reverend David Dearing will serve as the officiant.
