Ed was born on April 5, 1924 in Green Bay son of the late Robert and Lena (Funk) Pagel. He grew up on the family farm in Antigo. Ed left the farm in the early 1940s and moved to Milwaukee to find work.
This is where he met his first wife Leah Tenant and was united in marriage on November 3, 1948 in Milwaukee. Following their marriage they moved to the Appleton area where he was first employed with Schwinn Bicycle of Appleton. He was also formerly employed with Schultz Oil Company of Appleton and Ed also worked for Harry E. Wendtland as a steeple jack and sand blaster. From 1974 until his retirement in 1989 he was employed with Appleton Machine (Metso).
Following the death of his first wife Ed married Millie (Herrmann) Cleveland on April 5, 1997 in Appleton sharing 15 wonderful years together. Ed was known as a "Jack of all Trades" and saw to it that his family only had wants and never any needs.
Edward is survived by his wife, Millie; and his eight surviving children, Rick (Linda) Brennecke; Larry (Donna) Pagel; Kathy (Roger) Hoerning; Bonnie (Scott) Hennes; Sandy Meridith; Linda (Butch) Howe; Brenda (Mike) Arts; all of Appleton; and Tammy Pagel and her fiancAC.e Pete Newton, Gillett, WI; He is further survived by Millie's children, Susan Cleveland and special friend Wayne, Lakewood, WI; and Karen (Steve) Bartels, Ripon. 29 Grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, also surviving is a sister and brother-in-law, Rema (Cliff) Androsko, Deerfield, WI; and by a special nephew, Johnny (Cynthia) Tenant, Kenosha, WI; and by other relatives and friends.
Ed was preceded in death by his first love, Leah; a son, Lee Pagel; a daughter, Sue Krueger; a great-grandson, Trey Depner; and by Millie's son, David Cleveland and Millie's grandson, Ryan Hirte. A memorial service will be held 2:30PM Saturday, September 15, 2012 from the funeral home with Chaplain Jordan Kuczwara officiating. Inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery Appleton.
