Mario V. Avarista, 69, of Minto Street, co-owner of Empire Furniture of Providence for the last 52 years, died yesterday at St. Joseph Hospital.

He was the husband of Florence (DeTommasso) Avarista.

A lifelong resident of Providence, he was a son of Maria (Campana) Avarista of Providence and the late Antonio Avarista.

He was a life member of the Elks Providence-Cranston Lodge 14, a member of the Taber-Franchi VFW Post Cranston, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans.

He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Besides his wife and mother he leaves three daughters, Joyce Avarista-Muir and Debra Avarista-Gentile, both of Cranston, Jean Avarista of Providence; a brother, Louie Avarista of Cranston; a sister, Irma Tortolani of Providence; and four grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Joseph and Delia Avarista.

His funeral will be held tomorrow, at 7:50 a.m. from the B. Maceroni and Sons Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 in Blessed Sacrament Church, Academy Avenue. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
