FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Gary L. Knepper, 62, of 6405 Lincoln Way East, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2002, at Chambersburg (Pa.) Hospital.

Born June 19, 1939, in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Joseph A. and Madeline Ripple Knepper.

He was a 1957 graduate of Chambersburg High School.

He retired in 1992 from the Chambersburg Post Office after 30 years of service as a postal worker.

He served in the U.S. Navy for nine years during the Vietnam era.

He was a member of Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599, Burt J. Asper American Legion Post 46, and National Association of Retired Federal Employees Chapter 1068, all of Chambersburg.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Shipley Knepper, whom he married Sept. 17, 1961; one daughter, Laura C. Morin of Elkridge, Md.; two sisters, Patricia Fickes of Fayetteville, and Krista Knoll of Chambersburg; two brothers, Dennis Knepper of Huntingdon, Pa., and Eddie Knepper of Chambersburg; and two granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by one son, Michael E. Knepper.

A memorial service will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg. The Rev. John A. Ile will officiate. Burial in Parklawns Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, 452 E. King St., Chambersburg, PA 17201.
