Date: 11 Feb 1894
Source: Tell City Anzeiger, 17 Feb 1894
Last Sunday at 10:30 in the morning Jost Fischer, also well known outside the city, died at the age of 75 as a result of a cold. He was born in Canton Lucerne, Switzerland, came to America at the beginning of the 50s and here soon after Tell City's founding. After he had worked in various positions for several years, he ran a travern in his home on 8th street and at the beginning of the 80s became a fellow-owner of the Fischer and Hartman Chair Co. The deceased had earlier been elected several times to the city council and functioned twice as its chairman. Due to his upright nature and his righteousness he stood in high esteem with his fellow citizens and his family loses in him a caring husband and father. He leaves his wife, a son and a daughter, as well as several grandchildren. His burial took place Tuesday morning from the Catholic church to St. Mary's cemetery.
