Anna Kulzer was born on her parent's farm, their sixth child of twelve. (Years later, her parents adopted two orphan children giving her two more siblings).

Annie lived her whole life in Grove Township, Stearns County in central Minnesota. She married neighbor Bernard Uphus in 1892 and they birthed 13 children. They raised 12 children to adulthood, six daughters and six sons, losing a daughter Lizzie at age 12. They were farmers.

The town of Greenwald, MN sprung up near their farm during 1907-1910 era and that fact eventually made trading and churching more convenient.

Anna lived a long life and died in her 89th year of life. At death, she suffered with a form of dementia. Two of her younger sisters and also her mother, in early stage, likewise died with neuro-cognitive disorders. Anna lived the longest with the disease.

She was buried alongside husband Bernard in St. Andrew Cemetery, land that had been part of her dad's original homestead claim 100 years earlier and donated by her parents to the community for cemetery use. written by great nephew Gregory Dorr
