Omaha Daily Bee, January 29, 1909:

A military funeral under the auspices of the Landwehr verein, an organization of German war veterans, was accorded Frank M. Steinhauser Thursday afternoon. Prof. Steinhauser was the well known German veteran and bandmaster, who died Tuesday morning.

The services were held at the home of the daughter, Mrs. Leo Grotte, 1125 South Twenty-eighth street, Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Fully 200 members of the verein, accompanied by a military band, were present to do honor to their dead brother. Chaplain Jacob Hauck of the order of veterans conducted the funeral service, which was also attended by the relatives of Prof. Steinhaser who live in America and by many friend of the former soldier, whose career closed after the Franco-Prussian war with the reception of the decoration of the Iron Cross.

The body was escorted to Forest Lawn cemetery after the services at the Grotte home and interred there.

F. M. STEINHAUSER, director of the Musical Union, of Omaha, is a native of Germany, and was born and reared to the profession of music. In 1858 he enlisted in the Fourth Bavarian Regiment of Germany as band leader, and remained in that service till 1873, when he came to America. After spending a year in Thomas' Orchestra and five years in Gilmore's band of New York, he came to Omaha November 8, 1879, and organized the present Musical Union. He is composer of the overture to Princess of Wales, Garfield Memorial Hymn, Prima Donna Lancers, Apollo Lancers, Grand Excursion Lancers, Elite Lancers and Levitt Arbuckle's Cornet Solo, published by Carl Fischer, of New York. He is musical director at Boyd's Opera House and the German Theatre of Omaha.
