A joint funeral for Mr. John Heinrich Hirschfeld and his daughter took place with an unusually big attendance at the Lock 2 Cemetery. Pastor Buerkle led the service. The funeral procession consisted of 60 wagons including the two hearses. As already reported in the last edition of the "Star", Wilhelmina Louisa Hirschfeld, the daughter of John Heinrich Hirschfeld and his wife Maria, born Rump, died on Tuesday afternoon, December 6, from nerve fever at the age of 16 years, 9 months and 13 days. Just three hours later, Mr. John Heinrich Hirschfeld, her father, died of the same illness at the age of 46 years, 3 months and 2 days.
The deceased was born on September 4, 1838 in Mercer County in this state. He married Maria Elisabetha, born Rump, on October 8, 1862. This marriage produced 6 children, of whom 5 are still living. Three of the other children were sick with the nerve fever but are now recovering. Mr. Hirschfeld has suffered for many years with rheumatism and frequently was confined to bed. He was ill with nerve fever for about 4 weeks. He is survived by his wife and five children, whom he leaves in good circumstances.
