Mrs. Campbell was born in Chatham County on August 16, 1923 the daughter of Ernest C. and Mattie P. Phillips. She was a member of Fall Creek Baptist Church, a graduate of Bennett High School and Sandhills Community College. Stella worked at Klopman Mills of Ramseur for 30 years and then fulfilled her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse. She worked at Moore Regional Hospital and retired from Chatham Hospital after 20 years of service. She enjoyed gardening, working in her yard, going to the beach and attending sporting events to watch her grandchildren and great-grandchildren play.
Stella was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Donald Sullivan; brother, Charles Roland Phillips; sisters, Lessie Russell, Lillian Nall, Myrtle Alice Phillips, and an infant brother and a sister.
She is survived by three sons, a brother, seven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
