Sophia Helena Wilhelmina Schulz was born on October 29, 1899, in Leaf Valley Township, Douglas County, Minnesota, the daughter of Gustave and Colestine (Schmidt) Schoeneck. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith in the Ebenezer Lutheran Church of Leaf Valley. Sophia attended rural schools and grew to womanhood in the Leaf Valley area. On November 2, 1921, she was united in marriage to Reinhold Schulz in Leaf Valley. Reinhold died in 1980. They moved to the Farwell area fourteen years ago and Sophia had been a resident of the Knute Nelson Memorial Home for some time. She died on Thursday, August 2, 1984, at the Douglas County Hospital at the age of 84 years. She is survived by daughter: Mrs. Freddie (Florence) Krafthefer of Farwell; brother: Gustave Schoeneck of Garfield; and sister: Mrs. Agnes Schuelke of Brandon. Also surviving are five grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Funeral services were Monday, August 6, 1984, at 10:30 a.m. at Ebenezer Lutheran Church Leaf Valley, Minnesota, with Rev. David Sladday officiating. Interment was in Ebenezer Lutheran Cemetery, Leaf Valley, Minnesota. Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home.
