Frederick W. Koeplin
Frederick W. Koeplin, well known Leaf Valley pioneer, passed away Friday, March 11th, at the age of 64 years, 6 months and ten days. Death occurred at Fergus Falls, where he had been ill for about two weeks.
Frederick W. Koeplin was born in Pommerania, Germany, September 1, 1867. When a year and a half old he came with his parents to America and they went to Milwaukee where they lived for seven years, when they came to Carlos. When he was fourteen years old the family moved to Leaf Valley and that has been his home ever since.
June 13, 1890, he was united in marriage to Marie Fritz. Ten children were born of this union, nine of whom survive. One child died in infancy.
The bereaved widow and the following children are left to mourn his loss: Alvina (Mrs. Arthur Dobberpuhl) of Alexandria, Gustav Koeplin of Manitoba, Canada, Paula (Mrs. Herman Richter) of Fergus Falls, Anna (Mrs. Joe Smith) of Carlos, Bertha (Mrs. Paul Hertwig) of Miltona, Minnie (Mrs. Wm. Dietrich), Fred C. Koeplin and Emil Koeplin of Leaf Valley, and Ida (Mrs. Fred Hertwig) of Miltona. Two brothers also survive, Henry and Robert Koeplin, of Parkers Prairie. There are also sixteen grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 15th, at the residence at 1:30 and 2:00 o'clock at the Leaf Valley Ebenezer Evangelical Lutheran church. Rev. Sprengeler officiated, assisted by Rev. E. J. Dreyer of Miltona, the latter delivering an address in German. The pallbearers were Herman Froeming, Fred and Emil Brueske, Frank Wussow, Otto Beise and Reinhold Zinter. Interment was made in the Lutheran cemetery in Leaf Valley.
