Raymond Arkel Werner, age 78 of Highland, IL, died Saturday, February 7, 2015, at Faith Countryside Homes/Faith Care Center in Highland, IL.
He was born on Thursday, January 14, 1937, in Clay City, IL, the son of Arthur Henry "Otto" and Edith Idarea (nee Koehler) Werner.
On Saturday, October 18, 1958, he married Cornelia Emma "Connie" Werner (nee Korte) who survives.
He was a member of Saint Paul Catholic Church. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus #1580, Highland, IL; Illinois Potable Water Supply Operators Assoc. (Past President 1998-1999) (Surface Water Operator of the Year for IL in 1990); Collinsville Quail Club.
Mr. Werner was born in Clay City, IL and moved to Highland at age five. He graduated from Highland High School in 1954 and worked at Hug's Meat Market. In September of 1960, he started working for the City of Highland. He worked for the City of Highland for 39 years; retiring as the Supervisor of the Water Plant at age 62. He loved his grandchildren and great grandchild. He enjoyed mushroom hunting and his annual trout fishing trips to Montauk State Park, MO. His foremost hobbies were hunting and fishing. He raised quail for the conservation department and provided for the ducks at Highland Silver Lake. He also raised a large garden of vegetables and flowers, especially Iris.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, February 09, 2015, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL, and from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM, on Tuesday, February 10, 2015, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.
Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, February 10, 2015, at Saint Paul Catholic Church in Highland, IL, with Rev. Fr. Charles A. Edwards, Pastor officiating.
Interment will be at Highland City Cemetery in Highland, IL.
