Marissa Messenger, Marissa, IL, Friday, December 6, 1907, p.1.

The death of William Miles came as a shock to his family, friends and neighbors. He was sick only a little over a week and it was thought on last Sabbath that his condition had much improved but during the night he became suddenly worse until he passed away a 2:30 o'clock. William H. Miles was born in St. Clair Co. at the old Miles homestead about six miles southwest of Marissa Aug. 17, 1844, and died Dec. 2, 1907, aged 63 years, 3 months and 15 days. He was united in marriage in 1870 to Lucy Leslie who died in 1888. To this union were born seven children, four of whom are still living, one son Arthur, and three daughters, Sarah, Alera, and Grace. He was married the second time on Aug. 3, 1892, to Mary Ann Bloyd, who still survives him. He leaves to mourn his loss besides his wife and children four brothers - Alexander, Dolph, Oscar and Charles, and four sisters - Naomi, Mary, Clara and Eunice. Mr. Miles was a soldier during the latter part of the Civil War having enlisted in Company E. 30th Ill., on the 30th day of March, 1864, and at the close of the hostilities received an honorable discharge. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Margrave at the family residence Dec 4. Interment in the Marissa Cemetery.
