Walter Henry Rentsch, 83, of Halsey died Monday at Bridgecreek Alzheimer's Care Community in Lebanon.
He was born in Shedd, to Christ and Lena Rentsch. He married Jewell "Julie" Forrest on May 10, 1969, in Monmouth.
He served in the Army Air Corps and as an infantryman in Europe during World War II. Walter worked as a cattle rancher for 40 years, and also worked in a plywood mill for 30 years.
He was a member and a deacon of the Community of Christ Church in Albany. He enjoyed gardening.
Walter is survived by his wife, Julie; sister Johan Davis and two grandchildren.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Community of Christ Church. Sandy Slover will officiate. Viewing will precede the service beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Pine Grove Cemetery in Halsey.

This cemetery, founded in 1853, is located about 4.5 miles west of Halsey, on Pine Grove Road, off of Peoria Road. It it sometimes known as the Miller-Coon cemetery.
