Myrtle Frances Aemmer, age 83 of Bellingham, passed away January 18, 2008. She was born August 12, 1924 in Custer to Carl and Hannah Lueken. Myrtle spent her childhood in Vancouver B.C. before moving with her parents, brother Harold and sister Marion to Bellingham in late 1930's.

In 1942 she graduated from Bellingham High School where she had been active in varsity sports and various clubs. In 1944 she married Elmer Aemmer who was serving in the U.S. Navy in the War in the Pacific. After the war Elmer returned to Bellingham and the couple raised two sons and one daughter, and remained happily married for 63 years.

Myrtle attended Western Washington University, and served as President of the Roosevelt School PTA in the 1960's. She was a loving wife and mother whose most endearing qualities were her affection and good humor. Whether baking her famous cinnamon rolls or whipping up a batch of her exquisite fudge, whatever her endeavor, she did it with a song in her heart and kind, humorous, words on her lips. The sound of her lovely singing voice and sweet laughter will remain in the memory of the many that knew and loved her.

Myrtle is survived by her husband Elmer Aemmer of Bellingham, sons Michael Aemmer and wife Judy of Longview, WA and Kurt Aemmer and wife Rebecca Schlotterback of Bellingham, daughter Patricia and husband Roger Long of Bellingham; grandchildren Tyler and wife Allison, Angela and husband Lane, Jennifer, Elizabeth, Matthew, Megan, Michael, and Sydney; and great-grandson Sammy.
