When first accidentally finding these burials while grouse hunting, I spent a lot of time here studying these stones. It became obvious that mother Margaret died giving birth to daughter Margaret S. on March 16th, 1927. And even poor Margaret S. lived only 5 months. No doctors were to be had in those remote backwoods areas. Along with deaths of at least 3 other infants buried here, the story presents a photo of how tough things were in these mountains way away from medical help.

Several years after posting Mrs. Clark's burial, I found her husband buried in the Tate Cemetery in Linville Land Harbor development, Avery County, NC.
He re-married after the death of Margaret.
