Catherine Zinn, beloved mother of Howard Zinn, Jr. of Fresno and Laurel Groshong of Lakeport, Ca., passed into the arms of her Lord.

She had been a resident of Fresno since 1999 when she and her late husband, Howard Zinn, Sr., moved to the area to be closer to her family.

Catherine was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut to Watson and Esther Menzies.

She attended schools in Stratford, Connecticut where she belonged to the OFF Club (Organization of Flying Fingers). She was always and execellent typist and even mastered word processing on the PC in her later years.

Catherine, or Kay and Howard moved to the San Fernando Valley in Southern California in 1950 with their two children where she loved swimming in her pool, playing bridge both socially and at duplicate, and rooting for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Lakers and UCLA Bruins. She was also involved with the women's veterans auxiliary clubs. She and Howard were long-time owners of Kay's Cleaners in Panorama City.

Catherine was predeased by Howard, her husband of 55 years; and her son-in-law, Robert Groshong.

She remained living at her mother-in-law's house with her son and daughter-in-law Martha who treated her like gold and fixed her wonderful meals until she became very ill and required constant care. She resided at Pacific Gardens in Fresno for the past two years, receiving excellent care and love from the staff.

She leaves behind her son Howard and daughter Laurel; daughter-in-law, Marty Zinn; grandchildren, Robyn Reed and her husband Sirre of Lakeport, Joanne Zinn of Fresno, and Michael Williams and his wife Amanda of Fresno; her sister, Marion Schlichting, of Clovis; brother, Robert Menzies of Wallingford, Connecticut; sister-in-law, Dora Zinn of Houston, Texas; and nephews, Paul Schlichting of Clovis and Noel Zinn of Houston, Texas.

Visitation will be held at Lisle Funeral Home on Sunday, May 4, 2008, from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church on Monday, May 5, 2008, at 11:00 a.m.
