Son of Henry Loos & Dorothy Loos of Cape Girardeau, Mo. His mother Dorothy died when he was 3. His father Henry then married Augusta (Heier) Loos. He enlisted Missouri Volunteers 29th Infantry, Co. F. out of Benton Barracks, Cape Girardeau, Missouri, when he was 19.

Henry died of disease in Washington General Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee. This Infantry division lost 369 men during the war. Union soldiers who died in Memphis were buried at what is now Memorial National Cemetery. Many Confederate Soldiers are buried in Elmwood Cemetery, Memphis.
