Ruth Stelljes, 98, of New Ulm died Friday, October 12, 2012 at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm with Pastor Donald Sutton officiating. Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm. Visitation will be from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm is in charge of the arrangements.
Ruth is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Allan and Rachel Stelljes of New Ulm, Ronald and Molly Stelljes of Round Rock, Texas; 10 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Professor Otis W. Stelljes on June 7, 1986; great grandson, Eric Stelljes. She was the last member of her family and her husband’s family.
Ruth Marie Gieschen was born on April 15, 1914 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to John and Anna (Bieck) Gieschen. On July 6, 1935 she was united in marriage to Otis Stelljes at the St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. For 17 years she made drapery. In 1952 they moved to New Ulm and she worked for 20 years as a secretary at DMLC. She was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm and was a member of the Ladies Chapel Choir, Quilters and Ladies Aid at church.
