She is survived by her children: Gregg (Jill) Pfenning of Martin, Tennessee; Marsha (Jack) Murtz of Dublin, Ohio; Tina (Ron) Miller of Piqua, Ohio; Neil (Kelly) Pfenning of Saint Marys; by her daughter-in-law Tammy Pfenning of Troy, Ohio; by thirteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; a sister, Joanie Hansard of Vandalia, Ohio; her sisters-in-law Kitty Gerstner of Wapakoneta, Helen Gerstner of Shawnee, Ohio, and Mary Gerstner of Wapakoneta; her brother-in-law, Robert Burke of Saint Marys.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sons Keith Pfenning and Mark Pfenning, who died February 7, 2015; by her siblings: Roland Gerstner, John Gerstner, Mary Jane Titus, Robert Gerstner, Alice Driscoll, and Norman Gerstner. She was also preceded in death by her brothers-in-law: Ray Hansard, Cliff Titus, Phil Pfenning and Jack Driscoll; by sisters-in-law Joan Burke and Mary Jo Pfenning.
Dorothy graduated from St. Joseph High School in Wapakoneta, went to art school in Pittsburgh. She was a bookkeeper at the People’s Bank in Wapakoneta and also a homemaker. She had also worked at Vanderhorst Cannery.
She was a member of the Red Hat Society and VFW Post 9289 Auxiliary. She volunteered at Holy Rosary School for many years, and also as an adult literacy tutor in Auglaize County. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed spending time with her family and many friends. She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Saint Marys and the Altar Sodality of the church.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Saint Marys, Father Barry Stechschulte, celebrant. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery, Saint Marys.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Monday at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, Saint Marys, where memorial gifts may be given to the Maria Stein Relic Shrine, Sisters of the Precious Blood, or Friends of Holy Rosary School.
