German operatic soprano, born in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, the daughter of General Adolf de Ahna. Pauline was also famously the wife of composer Richard Strauss, whom she married on Sept. 10, 1894. They had one son, Franz.

Pauline has been described as ill-tempered, eccentric and outspoken, but her marriage to Richard has been characterized as happy. She was known to be his muse and the inspiration for many of his compositions. They were married for life and died only months apart. Both were interred on the grounds of the Strauss villa in Bavaria, along with their son and other family members.

A photograph of Pauline and Richard's burial monument may be found on the Find A Grave memorial for Richard.
